Beth Clifton Consulting

Background

Beth Clifton is the UK's leading retail consultant, specialising in childrenswear and beauty. With over a decade of experience, Beth uses her extensive retail connection to open doors and opportunities for small and growing brands, to help them realise their retail dreams. From brands like Wheat and Hyclo Skin to major retailers like Selfridges and Harrods, Beth's retail black book is second to none.

As Beth's business grew, she realised she needed a website to house case studies and testimonials, as well as advertise her services. She asked us to create her website, and trusted us to create her brand identity from scratch.

The Process

Starting a website from scratch meant a lot of decisions made, but here are a few implementations to create the perfect website for Beth Clifton Consulting.

#1 SEO Copywriting

Beth provided us with details about her services and case studies, as well as testimonials from happy clients. We took the bullet points, segmented into relevant webpages, and turned Beth's words into full sentences, complete with SEO keyword research and emotive marketing language, and structured in a readable format.

#2 Brand Identity Discovery

When Beth approached us to create her website, she knew exactly what her business and services were, but was unsure about brand identity in terms of the website's desired look and feel.

We tested a variety of colours to see which one resonated with Beth the most, creating multiple versions of the same webpage to enable Beth to review each colour palette in situ and decide which one best represented her brand and also her personality. This then helped dictate the look and feel of the rest of the website, such as the tone of voice and the imagery utilised on the pages.

#3 Design Experimentation

Beth was a dream client as she provided a lot of feedback. While she may not have known exactly what she wanted the website to look like, she knew exactly what she didn't want the website to look like. Fortunately, Beth was very receptive and open-minded to our experimentation with different design features, allowing us to probe and piece together a design of her website through a lot of experimentation and trials, and pushed us to think outside the box from a visual aesthetic point of view.

#4 Logo Creation

Beth had a name for her business (made easy by the fact that it was named after her!), but didn't have a logo that we could use. So we took it upon ourselves to design a simple logo to reflect the professional nature of her consultancy business while retaining the minimalist approach that she initially briefed us on. We experimented with different fonts and capitalisation options, until we arrived at the logo of today: sleek, sharp, modern and clean--a reflection of the ethos and values of Beth Clifton Consulting.

#5 Case Studies

Even without a website, Beth already had an impressive roster of clients and a proven track record of success. So when we requested content for case studies to prove her expertise, she was quick to supply them in straightforward bullet points.

We took the words from her emails, injected additional research and copywriting, and transformed the case studies into beautiful chapters of a story through formatting, imagery and colour, turning examples of her work into stories of success.
