Prim and Proper Services

Background

Founded in 2008, Prim and Proper Services (PPSL) is a bookkeeping business dedicated to charities and not-for-profits. With over 15 years of experience, PPSL founder Grace Ayanfalu has helped countless great charities and organisations keep their accounts and books in order, all while running a lovely crafts side business and helping train aspiring bookkeepers of the future.

Recently, her web host and designer terminated their agreement, so Grace needed someone to take over. That's where Mpowering Solutions comes in. We reviewed her website, and realised that for all these years, her original web designer was providing her with very little by way of service and design, for a recurring monthly fee. So we offered to not only host her website, but to redesign her website to reflect her fun personality in a professional and trustworthy way.

The Result

We carried out a full website redesign, including additional content and webpages that reflect the nature of charity bookkeeping (which is different to ordinary bookkeeping!). We created a brand design from scratch, from creating a new logo to sourcing relevant imagery that shows PPSL's professionalism alongside Grace's creative spirit.

The Updates

A lot of changes were made, but here are some of the key updates we implemented.

Image showing old PPSL logo (pixelated low res) and new logo (high definition and modern)

The old PPSL logo was small, and became pixelated when enlarged even slightly. It turns out the old web designer knocked it together in minutes, and there was no high res version of it.

Given that the old logo was the main logo for over 15 years, we wanted to retain elements of the logo but give it a modern (and high resolution) makeover. So we retained the colour palette, but modernised it with a block formation to give it a simple but professional look. Even though bookkeeping doesn't seem like a creative industry, we wanted to keep Grace's colourful personality, so we let the colours be the main focus. The block formation also allows us to reconfigure the logo depending on use, such as restacking the squares into a 2x2 formation for the website's favicon.

Imagery Sourcing

On the old PPSL website, the main banner was a rather unsightly photo of a calculator with an unmanicured finger placed upon the buttons. It was also enlarged but the resolution wasn't high enough, resulting in a blurry photo as the first image that greeted visitors. This immediately made the website appear unprofessional and amateurish. Furthermore, that was the only photo that was present on the website, making the website look visually dull.

Since PPSL did not have the budget for a bespoke photoshoot, we scoured photo banks to find photos that reflected PPSL's bookkeeping business, while exuding a sense of playfulness and creative spirit that Grace embodies.

PPSL trusted us with revamping their website, which included copywriting, so we undertook extensive research and reading to understand their niche: charity bookkeeping. In order to gain the trust of potential clients, your website's content needs to be accurate, updated and informative, and so that's what we set out to do.

And boy, did we learn a lot! It turns out charity bookkeeping is different to ordinary bookkeeping for individuals or businesses, due to the need to be accountable to the charity's donors. We started the web design process with very little understanding of the difference; by the end, we wrote an entire article about the difference, and even Grace herself couldn't believe the accuracy of the written content!

Updated information

Despite having a web designer and host, PPSL's website hadn't been updated since 2018. In fact, in 2025, there was still a section about internship openings in 2018! Not only was this confusing for visitors on the website, it could also send the wrong message that PPSL was no longer operational, since the information on the website was outdated.

We cleaned up the whole website, removing outdated internship dates and areas of service, since PPSL can help clients all over London thanks to digital advancements, and are no longer confined to their initial neighbourhood of 2018. We also wrote a short and fun biography about founder Grace Ayanfalu, to show her expertise in the field as well as her passion outside of work, so potential clients can get to know her and her personality before even speaking to her.

Despite having a web designer before, PPSL's content was not search engine optimised. The website structure and formatting was all over the place, there were no meta titles and descriptions, the sole image had no alt text, and so on.

We incorporated SEO best practices in our redesign, and now, PPSL's website has a 100% score for SEO according to Google's PageSpeed Insights tool.
